Europe's most important Gourmet fair, the XXXV Salon de Gourmets to take place from April 25 to 28, in Madrid

Fine food, best wines, best virgin olive oil, meat, cheese, and oysters can be found at the Salón de Gourmets, Europe’s unique and the most important professional gourmet food fair, held every year in Madrid, Spain, at the IFEMA fairgrounds. 

The latest edition of Europe's largest Quality Food and Beverage Fair brings together 1,600 exhibitors,  with 800 separate events,  at three pavilions - 4, 6, 8, - packed with over  40,000 quality products. 

Traceability, innovation, and sustainability in the 45,636 m2 that the 35th edition will occupy full of novelties, the ideal place to, in addition to being aware of trends, create fruitful trade agreements.

The figures speak for themselves.  The 34^th Salon de Gourmets, held in October 2021, brought almost 75 000 visitors to the Salón Gourmets, which generated a turnover of 185 million euros. Proof of this is that 92% of the exhibitors intend to return and 98% of the professionals who attended are satisfied with their visit. 

Numerous national and international companies already reserved space in halls 4, 6 and 8, at the Ifema fairgrounds in Madrid, either as individual exhibitors or under the umbrella of institutions, international pavilions, Autonomous Communities, Provincial Councils, City Councils or other Institutional Organizations such as Asturex, Ávila Autentica, Castilla y León with their quality seal Tierra de Sabor, Castilla-La Mancha,  Diputación de Huelva with Que Sea de Huelva, Sabor a Málaga and the Basque Government with Euskadi Basque Country.

Activities

The Salón Gourmets cannot be understood without the activities. From Show Cooking, presentations, product presentations or championships that take place throughout the 4 days of the event.

Classics such as the Ham Cutters Contest -who will be celebrating their 28th edition- or championships that repeat after the success of its first edition, such as the XChef Challenge by Cervezas 1906  organized by Estrella Galicia, official beer of the 35SG. featured dishes by twelve chefs from across Spain, paired with different beers from the Cervezas 1906 range. The jury rates aspects such as creativity, originality of the recipe, and the chef’s ability to transmit the culinary value of the dish while using sustainable best practices which have a positive impact.

On Tuesday, April 26th at the #35SG, the Sorlut 14^th Oyster Shucker Competition will take place with contestants having to shuck 30 oysters in the shortest time possible; the jury scored contestants according to shucking technique, cleanliness, speed, and skill. While the judges decide, Chef Ruben Fenollar will be preparing his famous Black Rice dish made with Rice from the DO Arroz de Valencia, with 24-carat gold and oysters.

Over 800 cheeses will compete at the XII edition of #GourmetQuesos, the Best Spanish Cheese Championship.  A blind tasting took place at the Hotel Wellington on April 6-7 to choose the 80 finalists that will compete in the 15 categories on Monday, April 25, to try and better SAVEL cheese, last year’s winner.

Wine is a big player at the Salon de Gourmets. The XXVI Wine Tunnel is a unique, and now traditional space that offers the possibility of tasting the best single-varietal wines of the country: 330 wines from 250 wineries.

The XXVII Sommeliers Spanish Championship Tierra de Sabor and co-sponsored by the Protos winery. The Best Spanish Sommelier 2022 will take place between April 27 and 28. The winner will represent Spain at the World Sommeliers Championship organized by the Somellerie Internationale Association (ASI). 

This year the novelties are the EVOO Quality Award - I Salón Gourmets World Extra Virgin Olive Oil Competition and the first Spanish Championship of Gourmet Pizzas

Salón Gourmets has been a driving force and an exceptional witness to the impressive boom that Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO) is experiencing around the world, supporting producers in their race towards excellence in a sector that is constantly innovating and professionalizing. #SalonGourmets identified a need to publicize the great Extra Virgin Olive Oils that are currently being produced in different corners of the world, the immense variety of color, flavor, texture, and infinite versatility of this product. 

The best extra virgin olive oils in the world will meet at the Salón Gourmets to celebrate the 1st Salón Gourmets World Extra Virgin Olive Oil Competition. The aim of the competition is to find the most outstanding Extra Virgin Olive oil from the 2021/2022 campaign.

The first Spanish Championship of Gourmet Pizzas, led by Jesús Marquina, the master pizza maker, founder, and director of the Spanish Association of Artisan Pizza Makers has chosen the Salón Gourmets as the best venue to organize a championship that will bring together the masters of this Italian dish around four categories: classic pizza,  pizza taglio, pizza pala and gluten-free, in addition to enjoying a competition of acrobatics that will surely give you something to talk about.

The winner of each category will represent Spain at the Mondiale della Pizza Championship to be held in Parma, Italy.
