The 36th Salon de Gourmets, a truly global gastronomic event

From April 17-20, 2023, the 36th edition of Salón Gourmets, the International Fine Food and Beverages Fair of Europe, will be taking place in Madrid. Over 2,200 exhibitors and 100,000 professional buyers are expected to attend the event at the IFEMA fairground.

Salón de Gourmets is an international event, with more than 25 countries represented by exhibitors. This year, Brazil is the Country of Honour,* and the Community of Madrid, representing Spain as “Guest Autonomous Community".  Madrid will show their gastronomic Designation of Origin  Alimentos de Madrid 

Visitors will be able to try products from around the world, including Alaska, Chile, China, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Iran, Japan, Mexico, Pakistan, Poland, Switzerland, and the United States. A four-day event with 55,000 singular products, show cooking, presentations, and over 1,200 activities,  breaking all records

Salón Gourmets is a renowned quality food and beverage professional fair, which has been running for 34 consecutive years and growing in numbers. It is the most visited by national and international professionals in the gastronomic sector, such as restaurants, hotels, distributors, catering, and specialized wholesalers and retailers. It is truly a global event that celebrates the best of the gastronomic world.

Among the exhibitors at Salón Gourmets, located in Halls 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8, there will be a large representation from both the private sector and public institutions such as Autonomous Communities, Regional Councils, Chambers of Commerce, Regulatory Councils, City Councils, Denominations of Origin, and more. These institutions attend the #SG23 to support the exhibiting companies and facilitate the marketing of their products nationally and internationally, given the event's international nature.

The institutions, edition after edition, highlight the vast range of agri-food products available in our country, with the presence of a variety of regions such as Andalusia, Aragón, Asturias, Basque Country, Canary Islands, Cantabria, Castilla-La Mancha, Castilla y León, Comunidad Valenciana, Madrid, Extremadura, Galicia (fishing and rural areas), La Rioja, Murcia, Navarra, and several Provincial Councils such as Almería, Ávila, Burgos, Gerona, Guadalajara, Huelva, Málaga, and Soria. This is an opportunity to explore Spanish gastronomy with the best Iberian cured meats, extra virgin olive oils, meats, cheeses, wines, preserves, and cold meats.

Eight stages hosting the best professionals, attendees can enjoy the 28th Sommeliers Spanish Championship Tierra de Sabor, the 8th Beer-Pouring Contest Estrella Galicia - Madrid Competition and the Beer-Pouring Contest Estrella Galicia National Final, and the 3rd XChef Challenge by 1906 Beer / Estrella Galicia.

Nespresso Professional will be the Official Coffee of Salón Gourmets, featuring the best cocktails, recipes, and masterclasses by its expert baristas. Additionally, three new competitions will take place this year: the World Championship of Poured / Cider of Asturias , GourmeTapa by Fuentes, and Master Pinchos Gourmets #productoriojano.

Jesús Marquina, better known as "Il Dottore Marquinetti," will prepare a live oyster pizza during the 15th Spanish / Sorlut / Grupo Gourmets Oyster Opener-Écailleurs Championship     

One of the stellar events at the Salon de Gourmets is the #GourmetQuesos: 13th GourmetQuesos, The Best Spanish Cheeses Championship.  Five new categories –for a total of 20 and 100 finalists who this year compete for the title of “Best Cheese of Spain 2023”, from more than 1,000 samples submitted.

Last, but not least, the III Burger Combat Hamburger Spanish Championship Gourmets / Lantmännen 2023, a battle between chefs looking to make their burger the best in Spain! 

Over 12,000 foreign buyers are expected to attend – many though the Hosted Buyers Program- and the Business Center/ICEX will host more than 200 buyers from over 40 countries. During the four days of the event, 4,000 meetings will take place thanks to the SG Matchmaking virtual platform, which allows exhibitors and buyers to schedule business meetings in advance.

Brazil will be showcasing a variety of its products at the 36th Salon Gourmets, which takes place from April 17 to 20 at Ifema Madrid. Cachaça, coffee, açaí, various spices, healthy snacks, sugar,  and wine are just some of the products on display, thanks to the collaboration between Grupo Gourmets and the Brazilian Export and Investment Promotion Agency (ApexBrasil). Over 20 companies will be present, including the Brazilian Animal Protein Association, showcasing Brazil's diverse production and commercial potential.
